'Marshmallow BBQ' is a hallucinatory dark comedy that explores why danger can be so irresistibly appealing. With their trademark love of grotesque kitsch and delightfully implausible horror aesthetics, Leirens & Storms investigate whether staged fear can do more than divide us - whether it might even bring us closer together.

A motley group finds itself cut off from the world, thrust back into nature. Armed only with insect repellent, the five campers quickly lose their grip on reality as illusions overtake reason and the wild shows its boundless force. A megalomaniac monster approaches, and the trip spirals into a spectacular bloodbath.

Drawing on their love of grotesque kitsch and the wonderfully implausible acting style of classic horror films, Leirens & Storms create Marshmallow BBQ: a hallucinatory comic drama in “horrifying English” that asks why danger is so seductive. Who — and what — are our monsters? Can we sympathize with them? And how can staged fear divide us, yet also connect and unite?

Leirens & Storms dive into the absurdity that lives in both comedy and darkness. Marshmallow BBQ marks their fifth collaboration, following Krocht (2014), Another One (2017 – Circuit X & Total Theatre Award), Happy Hour (2019) and Folks & Fools (2022). For the first time, they invite three additional performers: Marjan De Schutter, Maliqa Fye and Emma Browaeys. Geert Vanoorlé’s lighting design becomes a performer in its own right.
