Dit jaar gaat de achtste editie van de Sharp Shooter Battle door in Kortrijk! In samenwerking met het Kortrijkse hiphopcollectief De Stroate verwelkomen we deze internationale danswedstrijd in De Kreun. Omdat de focus op de uitvoering ligt en iedereen samen danst, bestaan de prelims (voorrondes) alleen uit cyphers: informele, cirkelvormige dansruimtes waar dansers samenkomen om al improviserend hun skills te tonen. Zo vormen die spontane, energieke omgevingen waarin creativiteit primeert op choreografie of kennis van de muziek die speelt. Na het succes van vorig jaar organiseren we ook dit jaar een kidsbattle( voor kinderen tot veertien jaar).
Gangmaker is Boyindombe Lokassa Rodie, een danser uit de popping-scene, een van de opmerkelijke stijlen die binnen de hiphopcultuur zijn ontstaan. Rodie is daarnaast funk-dj en internationaal bekend in de hiphop-underground. Hij is lid van het collectief Root Division en organiseert zelf battles, waaronder dus deze Sharp Shooter Battle.
Het collectief Root Division is vooral actief in hiphop en street culture. Hun belangrijkste focus ligt op het behoud ervan. Daarbij willen ze via hun activisme vanuit de underground impact hebben op de mainstreamcultuur.

This year, the eighth edition of the Sharp Shooter Battle will take place in Kortrijk! In collaboration with the Kortrijk hip-hop collective De Stroate, we welcome this international dance competition at De Kreun. Since the focus is on performance and everyone dances together, the prelims consist solely of cyphers: informal, circular dance spaces where dancers come together to showcase their skills through improvisation. These spontaneous, energetic environments prioritize creativity over choreography or knowledge of the music being played. Following the success of last year, we are also organizing a kids' battle (for children up to fourteen years old) this year.
The host is Boyindombe Lokassa Rodie, a dancer from the popping scene, one of the remarkable styles that have emerged within hip-hop culture. Rodie is also a funk DJ and is internationally known in the hip-hop underground. He is a member of the collective Root Division and organizes battles himself, including this Sharp Shooter Battle.
The collective Root Division is primarily active in hip-hop and street culture. Their main focus is on preserving it. Through their activism from the underground, they aim to have an impact on mainstream culture.
