How do you make it ... Mourad Bekkour

Mourad Bekkour (1977) is a Belgian theater programmer. He is the curator, brain, and organizer of ‘Nuff Said – the most diverse and unexpected cultural concept that originated in Antwerp in 2008. In the meantime, ‘Nuff Said (featuring comedy, spoken word, poetry, and music) has become a staple in the comedy and live circuits both domestically and internationally.
How do you make it?
“The name ‘Nuff Said literally means ‘enough said’, but it is also a reference to the very first host named Said. I was very inspired by Dave Chapelle and Def Jam. I have always been a big fan of jazz and hip-hop.”
“Comedy, music, and poetry are our main ingredients. There is always a kind of cozy festival atmosphere that makes people want to stick around. It’s really a big family where everyone is welcome. Nowadays, there are even people who buy tickets for an entire ‘Nuff Said season without knowing what’s coming. That’s actually the best compliment you can get, and it also increases the pressure to come up with a good line-up.”
Why do you create it?
“I didn’t find my thing in the regular cultural offerings, so I started something myself. I mainly wanted to create a fun place where people can discover new things. Over the years, ‘Nuff Said has grown significantly, and we have now been around for 17 years.”
With whom do you create it?
“The live music fit perfectly and provided an attractive change during the performances. It was in that context that the collaboration with the band Lucid Lucia (the new name of BRZZVLL) came about. At that time, they were still at the beginning of their career, but they have since grown into the ideal house band due to their versatility, capable of handling everything from hip-hop to afrobeat, jazz, or classical music.”
