Samen verbeelden we de wereld van morgen
Via podiumkunsten verbeeldt Schouwburg Kortrijk de wereld van morgen. We creëren een toegankelijke plek voor ontspanning en plezier, en een veilige(re) ruimte voor reflectie en dialoog.
Door samen te lachen, samen te dansen en samen te genieten van de magie op ons podium, ontsnappen we aan de stress van ons dagelijks leven. In dit moment van rust activeren we ons creatief denkvermogen en staan we open voor nieuwe ideeën en perspectieven.
We plaatsen stemmen die steevast en hardnekkig naar de zijlijn of de periferie worden geduwd steeds opnieuw in het midden. Dit doen we niet alleen op het podium, maar trekken we door binnen de hele organisatie. We plaatsen keer op keer een nieuw perspectief of een nieuwe ‘standaard’ in het centrum – een vertrekpunt van waaruit we de wereld (proberen) te bekijken en begrijpen. We beseffen dat inclusie een proces van lange adem is dat nooit af is. We zijn bereid deze tocht af te leggen en structuren in vraag te stellen.
We blijven samen, ook al zijn we het oneens. We blijven kijken en praten. We gaan steeds op zoek naar een gemeenschappelijke grond waar ideeën en perspectieven kunnen vermengen, bestuiven en transformeren, of gewoon naast elkaar kunnen bestaan. In die grond ontstaat iets nieuws en verrassends, soms ietwat tegendraads.
Enkel zo transformeren en doorbreken we vastgeroeste denkkaders en wissen we vooroordelen uit.
Open House for Performing Arts – Our Mission and Vision
On November 4, Schouwburg Kortrijk reopens its doors following a major renovation. This renovation was not limited to bricks and architecture; behind the scenes, we also built a renewed mission and vision.
Together we imagine the world of tomorrow
Through the performing arts, Schouwburg Kortrijk imagines the world of tomorrow. We create an accessible place for relaxation and fun, and a safe(r) space for reflection and dialogue.
By laughing together, dancing together, and enjoying the magic on our stage together, we escape the stress of our daily lives. In this moment of calm, we activate our creative thinking and remain open to new ideas and perspectives.
Time and again, we place voices that are invariably and persistently pushed to the sidelines or the periphery in the center. We do this not only on stage but extend it throughout the entire organization. Time and again, we place a new perspective or a new ‘standard’ at the center – a starting point from which we (try to) view and understand the world. We realize that inclusion is a long-term process that is never finished. We are willing to embark on this journey and question structures. We stay together, even if we disagree. We keep looking and talking. We are constantly looking for common ground where ideas and perspectives can mingle, cross-pollinate, and transform, or simply coexist. In that ground, something new and surprising emerges, sometimes somewhat contrarian.
Only in this way do we transform and break through entrenched mindsets and erase prejudices.

Our activities are the core of our theatre
Artistic programme: Every season we present around 200 performances and numerous projects. Theatre, dance, performance, circus, family, music, and comedy all find their place on our stage. Within this broad mix, there is room for relaxation, but also for reflection and dialogue, and we provide a breath of fresh air to new creators and unheard voices.

External events: In addition to our own artistic programme, we open our venue to local associations and external organizations. We consciously seek a balance between supporting local, semi-professional organizations and renting out the space to commercial players.
Theatre Café: Our Theatre Café is a lively meeting place. A 'public space' where the city flows into the theatre and vice versa. Here, visitors, artists, and staff meet in an open house atmosphere.
Community: At Schouwburg Kortrijk, we are building a nest of communities where everyone feels welcome, heard, and involved. Community is not only a story, but our driving force. Volunteers are indispensable in this. We cherish and support them based on a vision of equality, care, and encounter. Through projects such as QACE, Sharp Shooter Battle, or CUBO, community engagement is also connected with our artistic programming. We give space to new voices and stories, and through spacemakers, we bring communities and experiences together on and around our stage.

Schouwburg Kortrijk wants to be a place where something can grow, whether gently or boisterously. Where ideas can germinate and thoughts mature. A place for the playful human, who continues to search and explore, for color and sound, for language and tone. Dances what cannot be expressed, sings what cannot be explained. Where the norm is shifted and daring to dream is allowed. A place that listens and challenges, shows and shares, questions. Critical, not too easily content. A place that radiates hope. A place where imagination is told, cultivated, and shared. We’d love to do that with you.

Artistiek programma
Elk seizoen presenteren we zo’n 200 voorstellingen en tal van projecten. Theater, dans, performance, circus, familie, muziek en comedy vinden hun plek op ons podium. Binnen deze brede mix is er ruimte voor ontspanning, maar ook voor reflectie en dialoog en geven we zuurstof aan nieuwe makers en ongehoorde stemmen.
Eventlocatie
Naast onze eigen programmatie stellen we ons huis open voor lokale verenigingen en externe organisaties. We zoeken bewust naar een evenwicht tussen de ondersteuning van lokale, semiprofessionele organisaties en de verhuur aan commerciële spelers.
Het Schouwburgcafé
Ons Schouwburgcafé is een levendige ontmoetingsplaats. Een 'publieke ruimte' waar de stad in de schouwburg binnenstroomt en vice versa. Hier ontmoeten bezoekers, artiesten en medewerkers elkaar in de sfeer van een open huis.

Onze communitywerking
Bij Schouwburg Kortrijk bouwen we aan een nest van gemeenschappen waarin iedereen zich welkom, gehoord en betrokken voelt. Community is geen verhaal in de marge, maar onze motor. Vrijwilligers zijn hierin onmisbaar. We koesteren en ondersteunen hen vanuit een visie op gelijkwaardigheid, zorg en ontmoeting. Door middel van projecten zoals QACE, Sharp Shooter Battle of CUBO is communitywerking ook verweven met onze artistieke programmatie. We geven ruimte aan nieuwe stemmen en verhalen, en brengen via spacemakers gemeenschappen en ervaringen samen op en rond ons podium.

Schouwburg Kortrijk wil een plek zijn waar iets kan groeien, voorzichtig of onstuimig. Waar ideeën kunnen kiemen en gedachten rijpen. Een plek voor de spelende mens, die blijft zoeken en onderzoeken, naar kleur en klank, naar taal en toon. Danst wat die niet krijgt gezegd, zingt wat die niet krijgt uitgelegd. Waar de norm wordt verlegd en durven (en) dromen mag. Een plek die luistert en uitdaagt, toont en deelt, in vraag stelt. Kritisch, niet te rap content. Een plek die hoop uitstraalt.
