Roel Steeno knows exactly what it feels like to be the butt of the joke. It started back in school: "Ugly ginger!!!”. He repeated his first year of secondary school three times, lost Humo’s Comedy Cup five times, and in De Slimste Mens he was outplayed by an 18‑year‑old. In this comedy show, he turns every one of those blows into pure comic gold.

Roel Steeno has spent years warming up theatres and TV studios for other people. Offstage, he’s just as human as the rest of us, with hobbies like reading Google reviews. During lockdown he briefly considered becoming a gravedigger and even tried his hand at poetry. And he has one unusual talent: spotting beauty where others only see ugliness - like in his yellow Fiat Multipla.

He also knows better than anyone what it feels like to stand at the bottom of the ladder, to be the butt of the joke, the punchline, the easy target. It starts at school: “Ugly ginger!!!”. He repeats his first year of secondary school three times, loses Humo’s Comedy Cup five times, and in De Slimste Mens he’s beaten by an 18‑year‑old.

From that perspective, he tells his story - about failing, persevering… and the big question: is he actually ginger at all?
