The Memory of ... Jim Seynaeve

Jim Seynaeve is from Rollegem and is the coordinator for Brussels Philharmonic & Vlaams Radio Koor.

He shares his first memory of Kortrijk with us and gives some interesting tips for young creators.

What is your first memory of Kortrijk  or the region?

The countless bridges over and around the Leie; they form for me a delicate connection to the heart of the city center.

Do you have a specific place in Kortrijk that is special to you and why?

The banks of the Leie, an oasis of peace and enjoyment, are especially a celebration of liveliness in the summer, where an abundance of activities brings us together. Here, people meet, their stories intertwined in the gentle breeze. Even in winter, when the world is wrapped in silence, the bank invites walks or bike rides. On a bench, surrounded by the serene sparkle of the water, I find my moments of peace and reflection.

What place do your roots take in your artistic oeuvre?

I am proud to be a West Flemish; hard work and perseverance are in our DNA. We are entrepreneurial, down-to-earth, and hospitable, where a word is still truly a word. Moreover, we embrace life with a healthy dose of humor and self-reflection. :)

What would you like to say to the young generation of artists from Kortrijk?

Find your own voice and experiment with new, bold ideas. Collaborate on projects, create an open dialogue, and connect with the rich cultural tradition of our city and region. Do what you love, believe in it, and the rest will follow naturally!
