‘Combat des lianes’ is a haunting choreography that draws from nature and the movements of indigenous peoples fighting for survival. Resistance against the looming deforestation of Central Africa takes the form here of bodies intertwining like lianas, simultaneously one and many, in search of liberation and healing.

In the darkness of an ancient sacred forest, bodies emerge. As they twist and intertwine, they slowly become entangled in an intense and compelling dance, like vines seeking the canopy. In ‘Combat des lianes’, resistance takes the form of a dance within the heart of the vines, simultaneously one and many, in a confrontation with the deforestation that threatens the indigenous peoples of Central Africa.

Zora Snake explores how dance can become an act of rebellion and justice to restore the soul of our humanity. Immersed in the Baka communities in the equatorial forest, Zora Snake absorbs the polyphonic rhythms and polyrhythmic gestures of the local inhabitants, who see their habitat disappearing due to capitalism. The seven dancers and musicians - a sacred number associated with solidarity and a sense of urgency among the Koungang people in Western Cameroon - together form an organic fresco to which the silhouettes cling, now fluidly, then convulsively. Driven by electrobeats and shamanistic pulsations, the music carries and structures this dialogue between man and his environment.

A rich and enchanting choreography that draws from the roots of the jungle and the movements of peoples fighting for survival.
