In ‘Hihats In Trees’, Lander Gyselinck blends his love for early electronic dance and hip hop with his virtuoso jazz drumming. The result is an energetic, playful clash between analog fluidity and digital precision.

In ‘Hihats In Trees’, literally ‘cymbals in trees’, Lander Gyselinck intertwines his passion for early electronic dance music and hip-hop - the soundtrack of his younger breakdance years - with his jazz drumming practice.

Jazz, with its abstract, intangible language requiring thousands of hours of practice and performance, thus stands alongside the methodical precision of electronic music with its drum machines, sequencers, and meticulously composed rhythms. Acoustic versus synthetic, improvisation versus computer-controlled.

Lander Gyselinck: “In Hihats In Trees, I go in search of what is real, but also of what is not real. […] Music will, to a large extent, remain that indefinable mystery. Fortunately so.” (Knack Focus)
