Who has the right to land that should perhaps belong to no one at all? In '"oe zeg je ‘kom terug?"', Hannah Zaouad explores the impact of migration and return in Morocco’s Rif region - a historical crossroads and transit zone between Europe and Africa. The result is an incisive reflection on land, identity and the traces that history continues to leave in the present.

'Hoe zeg je “kom terug”?' is a poetic documentary theatre piece in which Hannah Zaouad explores tourism, migration and return in Morocco’s Rif region — a place shaped both by the mass migration of the 1960s and by the current “return tourism” of descendants of those migrants. The performance reflects on what has been lost, what is slipping away and what communities fight to reclaim, asking who can claim land that perhaps should belong to no one. Zaouad’s broader artistic practice connects personal history to collective memory, focusing on labour, migration and urban change. Their pitch for the project won the 2025 Roel Verniers Prize.
