Through traditional Tunisian dance and contemporary movement, performer and dancer Mohamed Issaoui tells an intimate story of illness, resilience and self‑acceptance. By placing his body at the centre - as a vessel of memory and transformation - he makes a theme like AIDS profoundly tangible.

Mohamed Issaoui (1993) is a Tunisian performer and dancer, winner of the Prince Seed Award 2021. Specialised in traditional Tunisian dance, his work raises political and social questions around gender and sexuality - shaped both by the world we live in and by his own personal journey.

In 2017, together with musician Imen Mourali, he created his first performance Le Déserteur, based on an autobiographical text exploring his relationship to sexuality, gender and the urban space. In 2019 came his solo 'STEPS', a piece that delves into traditional dances while staging a transformed body and a rebellious life story.

His latest creation, Ommi Sissi, centres on the theme of HIV/AIDS - a condition he himself faces and one that has profoundly reshaped his life. The work places the character’s childhood alongside his medical trajectory, revealing how the two are deeply intertwined.
