The incredible voices of this 100% female line‑up bring Nina Simone’s oeuvre back to life, sending her still‑urgent message of freedom, struggle and vulnerability out into the world once more. A beautiful show that, this season, can only be seen at the JazzLab Impuls partner venues - Kortrijk included.

Children of Simone was born within the Leuven Jazz Festival. The collective spotlights young talent and celebrates the power of an all‑female line‑up. Under the direction of Emeraude Kabeya, the group masterfully navigates the tension between vulnerability and resistance, offering a tribute to Nina Simone — an icon who continues to inspire across generations.

The seven vocalists, blending their voices into one force, let Simone’s message of freedom, struggle and fragility resound anew. From her greatest classics to her most intimate gems: a kaleidoscope of emotions unfolds, each delivered with an intensity that strikes straight at the heart.

Children of Simone honours a soul too often misunderstood — a woman woven into our cultural fabric. Through spoken word, the collective lifts the performance into the present, connecting Simone’s timeless music with today’s social and personal stories.

Maura Delbare, Mien Heyvaert and Caro Abutoh amplify the vocal power. With sparkling keys, pulsing drums and a deep, warm bass, they create a sonic landscape that lifts the voices, heightens the emotion and makes the music both intimate and monumental.
