Collectif Dream Comes True (Yan Duyvendak & Charlotte Terrapon) – ‘Dear Luigi, I Hate You’

‘Dear Luigi, I Hate You’ explores what restorative justice can mean. The piece is based on real events that received extensive media coverage: the late‑2024 murder of Brian Thompson, CEO of the American health‑insurance company United Healthcare. The suspect is Luigi Mangione, described by some as a hero. Dear Luigi, I Hate You imagines a fictional encounter between Luigi Mangione and Paulette Thompson, Brian Thompson’s wife.

The performance highlights complexity far beyond the judicial system and the media’s black‑and‑white narratives. By staging encounters between victim and perpetrator, it invites reflection on justice, responsibility, and the limits of institutional responses, proposing empathy as a possible path toward individual and collective reconciliation.
