Brussels Philharmonic, a cherished fixture at Festival Kortrijk, returns with Gustav Holst’s 'The Planets' an absolute classic that captures the power and poetry of our solar system with astonishing precision. Specially designed visuals elevate the experience even further, turning this performance into a truly immersive cosmic journey.

Brussels Philharmonic, now a true cornerstone of Festival Kortrijk, brings Gustav Holst’s 'The Planets' to the city in a reduced orchestral setting. Seven planets, seven impressions: the concept is as simple as it is brilliant. Holst ignites his own musical Big Bang by giving each planet - and its influence on the human psyche - a distinct voice.

In seven masterful soundscapes, the familiar yet mysterious celestial bodies reveal their colours. No longer spheres of molten rock or swirling gas, they become characters in a cosmic drama. The Planets not only became a worldwide sensation, it also laid the groundwork for what we now recognise as modern film music.

To mark the 200th anniversary of the Royal Observatory of Belgium, a special video was created for the planetarium. During the concert, this visual journey is projected in 2D, in dialogue with the musicians. The result is an extraordinary experience that gives Holst’s music both literal and figurative wings, carrying you across distant planets and deep into the night sky.

In collaboration with Wilde Westen.
