A Wave

In the 1980s, a triangular current between Brussels, Ghent and Antwerp sparked a generation of radical dance innovators. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Wim Vandekeybus, Marc Vanrunxt, Alain Platel and many others stormed Belgian theatres with their unconventional work - and soon after, they swept across Europe and the world. Forty years on, that ‘Flemish Wave’ continues to shape how we watch and how we dance.

In 'A Wave', choreographer Zoë Demoustier takes stock of this legacy. With fifteen dancers - from Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, joined by young performers, a Platform K dancer and artists who created the original works — she dismantles monumental scenes from the 1980s and 1990s with an eye on the future. Together, they explore what deserves to be passed on, what might need an update, and above all: how references can be a source of joy rather than a constraint, sparking new dance pleasure and perhaps a new wave altogether.
