In this staged live radio broadcast, Filip Jordens slips into the role of special guest Francis Poulenc - “Poupoule” to his friends. What follows is a delightfully surreal plunge into the kaleidoscopic oeuvre of the French composer and his equally colourful personality.

In 1943, an aircraft released thousands of copies of 'Liberté', a poem by Paul Éluard, over occupied France. In response, Francis Poulenc secretly composed his cantata Figure Humaine, a powerful ode to liberation. In 1946, the NIR — precursor of the Flemish Radio Choir — premiered the work on Sender Brüssel, newly freed from Nazi control.

Exactly 80 years later, during a staged radio broadcast, Filip Jordens steps into the role of special guest Francis Poulenc — Poupoule to his friends. He is joined by the virtuoso musicians of I SOLISTI and the Flemish Radio Choir, while Maaike Cafmeyer, as an impassioned host, guides the conversation with flair. Together, they slip through the folds of time, moving between emotional testimonies and hilariously offbeat musical moments.

Radio Poupoule offers a truly unique introduction to Poulenc: his kaleidoscopic oeuvre, his colourful personality, and the many unexpected musical ties he forged with Belgium. And as the cherry on top, the delightfully surreal 'Le Bal Masqué'. The seasoned Poulenc devotees of the music‑theatre collective Les Âmes Perdues — who spent all of 2024 celebrating the composer’s hypothetical 125th birthday — take the reins of this production.

In collaboration with Wilde Westen.
